A Ulysses man was taken to the hospital Wednesday after a two-vehicle crash eight miles south of Syracuse.

George Reyes, 42, Syracuse, was driving a 2000 Peterbuilt semitrailer southbound on Kansas Highway 27 and came up behind Randall Levens, 40, Syracuse, who was driving a 1973 Chevrolet truck and was attempting to turn left on the highway. Reyes attempted to pass the truck, and the two vehicles collided in the northbound lane, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. The semitrailer went into the east ditch, where it rolled a three-quarter turn and came to rest in the northbound lane.

Reyes was taken to Hamilton County Hospital for possible injuries. A call to the Hamilton County Hospital regarding Reyes’ condition was not returned this morning.

He was wearing a seat belt, according to KHP.

Levens was not wearing a seat belt and suffered no injuries, according to KHP.
