Ethnic minority groups that have made
Garden City home are looking for a place to share their cultures.
Representatives of the ethnic minority groups are asking to use
the city’s former American Legion building for a multicultural
center.
Several dozen residents who are part of the Coalition of Ethnic
Minority Leaders made that request last week during a meeting of
the Garden City Commission.
Most of the residents are from Somalia, Vietnam and Burmese
communities, with some from Laos, El Salvador and the Philippines.
A representative of the group says the minorities want to
participate in Garden City, while also having a place to celebrate
and explain their various cultures.
The American Legion building will soon become a city-owned property.
