Dodge City Turns Down Garden City’s Request To Give Up EAS Funding

KSCB News - August 8, 2011 8:02 am

Dodge City officials have chosen to ask
the federal government to continue subsidizing flights from Dodge
City to Denver.
The Dodge City Commission voted 3-2 Thursday to ask the U.S.
Department of Transportation to approve federal funding from the
Essential Air Service program for flights to Denver.
The Dodge City Daily Globe reports that
southwest Kansas is in danger of losing commercial air service if
EAS funding is cut.
In response, Garden City officials had asked Dodge City to
decline about $1 million in federal funds to establish a regional
airport in Garden City that would also serve Dodge City.
But the commission voted to continue the city’s current
arrangement with Great Lakes, which provides four daily round-trip
flights to Denver.
