Plains Woman Injured In Dodge City

A Plains woman suffered disabling injuries Wednesday when a vehicle struck her in the A & W parking lot, 1903 N. 14th Ave.
Shortly after midnight, Plains resident Patricia Amerin was kneeling in the restaurant’s drive-through lane to stripe that part of the parking lot, Dodge City Police Chief Craig Mellecker said Thursday. The restaurant’s exterior lights were on so the workers could stripe the lot.
A driver thought the restaurant was still open and pulled into the parking lot, striking Amerin, Mellecker said. The driver and passenger didn’t realize they had struck anyone, so they left the restaurant and returned to their home in Kinsley.
Police have not arrested the driver.
Mellecker declined to identify either the driver or the passenger since the case is still under investigation.
Amerin’s husband, who works for the same striping company, was on the scene and came to her aid.
Amerin, 52, was taken to Western Plains Medical Complex for treatment and later transported to a Wichita hospital, Mellecker said. He said she was still in the hospital, but he did not know her condition. For this story go to www.dodgeglobe.com
