Kansas Legislators Wrap Up Session

KSCB News - June 1, 2011 3:37 pm

Kansas legislators are out of session until January.

The House and Senate had brief meetings Wednesday to formally
conclude their 2011 session.

Lawmakers wrapped up almost all of their substantial business on
May 6, the last of 90 scheduled days in session.

But the ceremonial adjournment gives legislators one last chance
to review Gov. Sam Brownback’s vetoes and fix mistakes in
legislation they’ve passed.

In the House, supporters of state funding for the arts failed to
override Brownback’s veto of the entire budget for the Kansas Arts
Commission.

Legislators also honored the Louisburg High School football team
for winning a state championship.

Both chambers met for less than an hour.
