More Counties Added To Emergency Grazing Acreage

KSCB News - May 25, 2011 7:55 am

The Kansas Farm Service Agency has approved
emergency grazing on Conservation Reserve Program acreage in two
more western counties.
The addition of Pawnee and Finney counties comes about one week
after the government released CRP acreage in 12 drought-stricken
Kansas counties for emergency grazing.
CRP pays farmers to take fragile acreage out of production to
help prevent topsoil erosion. The grazing orders are in place
through Sept. 30 and apply to a maximum 75 percent of a user’s CRP
acreage.
The counties previously approved for the order are Grant,
Hamilton, Haskell, Kearny, Lane, Meade, Morton, Ness, Seward,
Stafford and Stevens.
Livestock producers wishing to participate should contact their
FSA county office to request emergency grazing on an individual
contract basis.
