Aid To Public Schools Delayed Again

KSCB News - March 2, 2011 8:10 am

For the third consecutive month, Kansas has
delayed part of its aid payments to its public schools because of a
cash crunch.
Deputy Education Commissioner Dale Dennis confirmed Tuesday that
the state is temporarily withholding $92 million in general aid to
its 289 school districts. That’s half of the general aid they were
due at the start of March.
The state also delayed part of its aid payments for January and
February because revenues don’t flow in when bills come due. The
delays allow the state to meet its payroll and pay other bills on
time.
Dennis says he anticipates that there won’t be any major
problems for school districts because of the delays and expect that
they may last only until early next week.
