The library at Seward County Community College/Area Technical School, 1801 N. Kansas in Liberal, will celebrate Kansas in the Library during the month of April with a display on Barn Yesterday: Remember Kansas Barns.

Kansas barns have grown out of the state’s landscape, culture, and climate. As Kansans learned how to farm and ranch here, they adapted their barns. Barns housed animals, grain, equipment, and feed. They were also used for activities such as church services, dances, and spare bedrooms. Today barns symbolize rural life and are a point of pride for many Kansans.

The new exhibit examines Kansas’ rural heritage through historic and contemporary photographs, illustrations, and quotes and was produced by the Kansas Humanities Council.
