Republicans have swept all statewide offices
in Kansas, ousting an incumbent Democratic attorney general,
secretary of state and state treasurer.
Republican Kris Kobach defeated Secretary of State Chris Biggs.
Kobach is a Kansas City-area law professor who helped write
Arizona’s new immigration law, but he made combatting election
fraud the centerpiece of his campaign.
Kansas Senate Majority Leader Derek Schmidt defeated Attorney
General Steve Six. The incumbent’s refusal to have Kansas challenge
the new federal health care law was a big issue in the race.
State Treasurer Dennis McKinney lost to Sedgwick County Ron
Estes.
All three Democratic incumbents had been appointed by Democratic
governors to fill midterm vacancies.
