Winter Wheat Planting Going Well

KSCB News - September 28, 2010 12:00 am

Kansas farmers are making good progress

getting next year’s winter wheat crop into the ground.

Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service reported Monday that 21

percent of the wheat acreage has now been planted. That’s about

even with late September last year but behind the five-year average

of 28 percent.

Meanwhile, fall harvest of other crops is also going well.

Corn harvest is 54 complete. The harvest is more than a week

ahead of normal and more than a month ahead of last year’s rate.

About 13 percent of the sorghum and 7 percent of the soybeans

have also been cut in Kansas.
