Bombs Away for Bee Jays in Denver

The Liberal Bee Jays stay red hot with an 8th straight win 17-3 against the Denver Cougars Wednesday night in downtown Denver. The Bee Jays used the rarified Rocky Mountain air to their liking with three home runs and 10 extra base hits. Ben Merriman was 4-4 with two home runs and two doubles in the win at Metro State.
Robert Orr grounded out to score a run in the first. Denver scored in the second to tie the game. Liberal scored three in the third. Ben Merriman led off the inning with his first double. Lane Snow doubled to left center to drive him home. Robert Orr lifted a two run home run to right for the 4-1 lead. The Bee Jays added two in the fourth. The first two men reached on an error. Ben Merriman doubled home a run and Miller Durham hit a sac fly for the 6-1 lead. Liberal scored two in the fifth for the 8-1 lead. Robert Orr doubled to lead off the inning. Matt Cormier whistled a two RBI double off the fence in right center. Ben Merriman led off the sixth with a home run to left center. Liberal poured it on with eight in the eighth. Miller Durham whacked an RBI triple off the fence in center. Robert Orr singled home a run. Matt Cormier added an RBI single. Taiga Sakuma hit an RBI double. Ben Merriman hit a three run home run to left.
Liberal out-hit the Cougars 18-7. Liberal played errorless baseball.
Ben Merriman was Epic Touch Player of the Game going 4-4 with two home runs, two doubles, and five RBI’s. Robert Orr was 4-5 with four RBI’s, a home run, and a double. Luke Steward pitched five strong innings for the win striking out four and walking one.
Denver is 3-16 overall and 2-12 in the Rocky Mountain. Liberal is 12-2 overall and 11-2 in the RMBL. The Bee Jays play at Wheat Ridge Thursday at Everett Middle School at 5:30 central time on 1270 and 92.3. Dugout Show coverage begins at 5:15.
