Seward County grabbed win after win this past week with clean sweeps over Garden City and Barton in KJCCC action and continued their win streak on Saturday in Goodland where the Lady Saints scored 20+ runs in each game of the doubleheader to sweep the Mavericks of NW Kansas Tech 21-3 and 23-3 with a run rule in each game.
There was no lack of scoring for Seward County as they flew out in front with thirteen runs in just one inning as Anberlin O’Dell started the big hit barrage with an RBI double on a fly ball to right field that made it 3-0 just four batters in. Noemi Tudon stepped to the plate and doubled to center for a pair of runs while a triple by Alyssa Morgan added another two runs for an 11-0 advantage over the Mavs. O’Dell for the second time in the first inning appeared at the plate and connected on a big hit that this time landed beyond the fences for a two-run homer to end the top of the inning with SCCC ahead 13-0. Already in run rule territory, the Lady Saints kept adding to their total as three straight RBI singles from O’Dell, Samantha Gomez, and Raeana Ortiz in the top of the fourth made it 19-2 while a double in the fifth from Kaylin Jones helped wrap the game up early with a run rule win of 21-3 in game one.
Seward County kept piling on against NW Kansas Tech in game two as Samantha Gomez had a sacrifice fly that allowed Zoe Lampe to tag and make her way home to put SCCC ahead 2-0 after the first. In the next inning Morgan, O’Dell, and Ortiz combined for three big swings to combine for four RBIs before wrapping up the second with an 8-1 lead for the Lady Saints. Gomez knocked out a double on a line drive to right field to drive in another run for Seward County and a parade to home for SCCC quickly put their led up to 15-1 while a three-run homer from Hailey Michalik stretched it to 19-1 in the fourth. Another four scores for the green and black allowed the Lady Saints to wrap up the day ahead of schedule with another run rule win 23-3 to remain perfect on the week at 6-0.
Seward County now improves to 22-14 overall on the season with a 16-6 record in Jayhawk conference action after sweeping all three of their opponents this past week. The Lady Saints will look to grow their win streak on Wednesday when they face the Pratt Beavers at home on French Family Field in a doubleheader with game one beginning at 1:00 PM.
