Kansas Health Foundation Brings Free Books to Liberal

Joe Denoyer - October 11, 2019 1:12 pm

The Kansas Health Foundation is coming to Southwest Kansas to distribute up to 10,000 free books to families in its mission to improve children’s literacy in the region – and throughout Kansas. You may remember that earlier this year the Kansas Health Foundation launched a children’s literacy initiative called “Can’t Wait to Read” across the state. KHF is now bringing “Can’t Wait to Read” to families in Southwest Kansas in a unique way.

Beginning next week, KHF is distributing up to 10,000 books to families in the Liberal, Garden City and Dodge City communities. But, this isn’t just any book. KHF created and published a bilingual children’s book -“Just Like You” or “Igual Que Tu” – specifically for Southwest Kansas families.

It is a fun family story that follows two siblings as they discover traits they share with their family. The book also contains literacy tips for families to help build literacy into their everyday routines and activities for families to do together. Also, the book has an interactive element, incorporating augmented reality throughout.

Please come Monday, October 14 at 9:30 a.m. to the Liberal Memorial Library as Kansas Health Foundation makes its first deliveries to Liberal.

The public will have the opportunity to speak with Monique Garcia from Kansas Health Foundation.
