4th Quarter Foils LHS Upset Bid at Wichita South

The game plan was working against 3rd ranked Wichita South.  Pack in a zone, execute on offense, don’t get in a track meet with a perennial power from the City League.  Liberal led by six at the half and by one after three.  But the Wichita South Lady Titans caught fire from three point range late out scoring the Liberal Lady Redskins 20-5 in the fourth quarter for a 55-41 win over LHS.

The Lady Red led 13-11 after one.  Liberal built second quarter leads of 16-11, 19-13, 23-18, and 26-20 at the half.  Liberal led 36-35 after three.

Liberal shot 54 percent from the field but committed 21 turnovers.  South shot 39 percent but put up 21 more shots.  LHS was 5-11 from three point range and 6-8 at the foul line.  South was 11-28 from three and 6-6 at the free throw line.  The Lady Red out-rebounded the Titans 24-12.

Hailey Contreras scored 16 in the loss.  Shamari Lewis was Epic Touch Player of the Game with 11 points and eight rebounds on 5-8 shooting.  Kamilah Delgado scored 11 with six rebounds.

Wichita South is 4-1 and Liberal is 3-2.  Liberal hosts Hugoton Tuesday night at 6pm with Redskin Pre-game at 5:45 on 1270 and 92.3.
